Our Story

Our story starts with the love for Afghan food

36 years ago, our story started with one family who moved with their 4 children from Afghanistan to Australia – Mr. & Mrs. Shakoor decided to share their legacy and amazing cooking with the local Afghan community at social gatherings.

It didn’t take long until the Afghan Marcopolo Restaurant was found, 11 years later, in Frankston, after locals started loving the Afghan food that we have been serving for over 3 years at the Mornington Australia Day festivals. People could now enjoy a lovely Afghan place that offered delicious traditional dishes, charming decor and a glimpse of the Afghan culture.

Our small family business had suddenly become a beloved Mornington restaurant, situated on Main Street Mornington, in 2000, grown out of the love for aromatic food, all topped with a bit of the Afghan flavour of life. Within the first week, the restaurant became a success and very soon, we became one of the most beloved eateries in town.

20 years later, during which all the lovely recipes have been handed down to generations, my turn came to take care of our beloved restaurant. I am Nadir Shakoor, one of the 4 children in the family.

I learned everything about the family business from my parents at a very young age and soon fell in love with cooking.

We decided to put the business under re-development for 8 months during 2019/2020 to relaunch and offer locals an exciting new look of the restaurant, a more delicious dining experience, and the amazing Afghan atmosphere that they grew to love and enjoy so much.

Please don’t hesitate in visiting us and enjoying good food, beautiful memories and a new adventure in taste.
